The BCPS goes North again, after other northerly weekends at Harrogate, Durham, Paisley and Pitlochry. To reach the Village Hotel on the outskirts of Newcastle, friends at home and abroad might welcome some travel details.
For those arriving via Newcastle Airport, the Metro destination is Northumberland Park: touch-screen machine button for Zones A, B and C for approx. £3.50 single fare. Journey time is approx. 40 minutes, with one easy change to an adjacent platform at South Gosforth in the direction of ‘Coast’. For those arriving by rail at Newcastle Station, the direct Metro journey is again to Northumberland Park: touch-screen machine button for Zones A and B for approx. £2.50 single fare. Journey time is approx. 25 minutes. The Metro station entrance is to the immediate right of the platform exit from Newcastle Central Station. (Mark Ridley makes the helpful point that travellers may buy a “combined” ‘Transfare’ ticket at Newcastle Airport or Newcastle Central valid for travel on the Metro (to Northumbria Park Metro stop) and a bus ride to the Village Hotel. As well as bus service 19, buses 80 and 309 also stop at the Village Hotel.)
All travellers – other than those who come by car – should turn right outside Northumberland Park (Metro) station, and turn right again for the bus stop. Buses no.19 (destination North Shields) are 01 and 31 minutes past the hour, and reach the Village Hotel stop in about 4 minutes.
There is no taxi service from Northumberland Park station. However, taxis from both Newcastle Airport and Newcastle Central Station should cost about £17- £20.
Do, please, make your booking with the Village Hotel as soon as possible, in accordance with the on-going announcements in The Problemist. The telephone number of the Village Hotel for (welcome) visitors from abroad is:
