1.Se4 threatens 2.Sf6 mate and Black’s best defence is 1...dxe4 (1...Bg7 only delays the threat after 2.Rf8+). 2.Rb5 threatens mate on b8, and after 2...Bxb5 3.Qxa5 threatens 4.Qxb5.The bishop can move away, but a path has now been cleared for 4.Qh5 mate.
Schories was a strong player who had tournament wins over well-known names such as Tartakower, Bernstein and Spielmann to his credit.
