A four-part helpmate with very unusual twinning. First solve the
diagram. Then in the final position replace the mating piece on its
initial square to obtain the starting position of part b). Repeat the
procedure twice more to obtain the starting positions of parts c) and
d).
a) 1.Be5 cxd3 2.Bd6 d4
b) 1.Qd2 c3 2.Qd4+ cxd4
c) 1.Rb7 cxb3 2.Sb6 b4
d) 1.Sxc6 2.c4 2.Sd4 Sxa6
White’s first moves show the Albino theme, the four possible moves of a white pawn from its
starting square. The individual solutions may not be very interesting, but the concept is highly
original and the execution ingenious.
