A highly thematic four-mover which should not prove too stiff a solving
challenge.
The key, 1.Rb7, threatens 2.Rb5 and 3.Rh5. After
the best defence 1...Bxe2 White fires the battery while setting
up a new one – 2.Rb1+. After 2...Bf3 (2...Kg1 is met by an
immediate mate 3.Be3) 3.Bxh6+ sets up a third and decisive battery
– 3…axb1Q 4.Be3.
Jacob Hoover: I really enjoy seeing battery plays in chess
problems. For this reason, I found this one simply AWESOME!!! Over the
course of the solution White prepares, and fires in turn, THREE
different batteries! The poor black king just couldn't get a break,
could he? That said, this four-mover was just way too easy because the
key was fairly obvious, as 1...Bxa8! is very strong.
