Semyon Levman
A striking four-fold theme produced from a remarkably simple setting.
1.Bg7 threatens 2.Sh6 followed by 3.Sxf7. Black can only defend by clearing the seventh rank for the rook to
guard f7. In each case the defence contains two weaknesses, abandoning a pawn guard or potential guard of a
threat square, while closing a rank to prevent a rook guard. 1...b6 2.Se7 and 3.Sc6; 1...b5 2.Rc2 and 3.Rc5;
1...c6 2.Bf8 and 3.Bd6; 1...c5 2.Re8 and 3.Rd5.
Dafydd Johnston: Nice correspondence between the four thematic lines as each white piece in turn takes
advantage of the double weakness of the four black pawn moves.
Guy Meissonnier: A splendid three-mover!
