Special Prize, Talabér-70 JT, 1981
A miniature helpmate gem by German composer Dieter Müller, who died on
18th March at the age of 72.
1.Qxb5 Qb8 2.Qa4 Qb2 and 1.Qxd4 Qh4 2.Qb2 Qa4.
Perfectly matched solutions, with the queens reciprocally exchanging their final destinations. There is
a paradox in the black queen ending up blocking a square which the bishop it captures was already guarding.
Jacob Hoover: It is interesting to note that the queens swap final positions between the two
solutions. Also, each mate is a pure mate. (and economical, making them model mates).
Guy Meissonnier: A beautiful helpmate with two sacrifices of Bishops!
