There are a number of set mates, and the solver’s task is to deal with rook moves on the file,
as capturing the rook will currently stalemate Black. Removing the masked bishop guard of h2 by,
for example, 1.Bc5, results in lines such as 1...Rf5 2.Qxf5 Kh2 3.Qd3 Kh1 4.Qh3, but 1...Rf8 remains a problem,
as the bishop prevents the Queen from reaching the third rank. The solution is to annilhilate the bishop with
1.Bf8, hence 1...Rxf8 2.Qxf8 Kh2 3.Qa3 Kh1 4.Qh3, and similar lines 1...Rf7 2.Qxf7 Kh2 3.Qb3,
etc., also 1...Rxf2+ 2.Sxf2+ Kh2 3.Bd6, and 1...Rxg4 2.Qf3+ Kh2 3.Qxg4 or 3.Bd6+.
Jacob Hoover: A rather nice example of stalemate avoidance.
