A black bishop star met by a white rook cross in an economical setting. It is interesting that Rudenko chose to use a black rook on h1 (necessary to stop the cook 1.gxh8Q) with a knight on e1 when the rook could stand on h3 with a black pawn placed anywhere from b3 to g3. Sometimes a composer must decide whether a more visually appealing setting justifies a relaxation of strict economy.
