A fine example of the single-line helpmate whose idea is simply a
well-hidden mate.
1.Qh8 Sxg7 2.Kd4 Kc6 3.Bxb3 Se6+ 4.Kc4 Sc5 5.Qd4 cxb3
A mate which takes some imagination to spot. The pawns at f4 and g4 prevent the queen from reaching d4 by alternative routes, while the pawn at f3 stops cooks with bishop blocking e4 and queen blocking e3.
Ravi Shankar: 1.Qf6? is possible, but doesn’t work. 1.Qh8! is a pleasant surprise!
